Blog Brief: Red Tape Reduction – Creating Room for Business to Grow
The Somerset Business Chamber, in partnership with the Somerset Regional Council’s Business Development Officer (BDO), is committed to supporting small and family businesses by reducing red tape and creating conditions that encourage greater investment across the region.
This collaborative effort aligns with the Queensland Small Business Commissioner’s (QSBC) renewed focus on identifying and cutting unnecessary regulations that burden business owners. Many Somerset businesses face frustrating paperwork, unclear processes, and lengthy approvals—issues that restrict growth and investment opportunities.
To address this, the QSBC has launched the Reducing Red Tape initiative—calling on businesses to share their experiences and ideas through a quick, anonymous submission process. These real-life insights will be used to influence meaningful reform at the state level.
At the local level, the Somerset BDO plays a vital role in working with the Chamber to:
Facilitate business investment into the region by streamlining planning and development interactions;
Provide information and case management for businesses seeking to grow;
Advocate for a customer-focused, efficient approach to approvals; and
Participate in state initiatives like the Queensland Small Business Friendly Councils Program.
This joint effort helps ensure that government policies are “right-sized” for small businesses and that barriers to doing business in Somerset are reduced.
🔹 Clear processes🔹 Faster approvals🔹 Less red tape
